About The Client

The Project

The project introduced new systems and interfaces to manage provision of broadband connections from remote areas of Ireland, that were introduced as part of a National Broadband Ireland government project.

The Client, working in collaboration with their reseller networks, was developing a new service to facilitate communication between the NBI provider and the broadband reseller. The client developed new systems for order processing. In this journey, the NBI provider is the network supplier, the reseller handles the customer sales portion, and the client provides the systems and communications for easy integration and automated ordering.

Business Challenge

The solution consisted of distributed web services and Spring Boot applications in containerized OpenShift clusters (Linux based). It involved complex integration across multiple upstream and downstream systems using a combination of REST and SOAP APIs. End-to-end integration testing was required, very early in the development phase, alongside the agile development activities.

Business Solution

We deployed our UNITE framework to enable automation testing from day one, on distributed systems and databases. UNITE easily handled both REST and SOAP based APIs. End-to-end integration testing in the early development phase was achieved using API mocking using WireMock. We also integrated customized HTML reporting and triggered automated emails to intended audiences containing test execution reports.

Results

  • Reduced regression execution to ~20hrs from ~80hrs per sprint (2 weeks) using automation.
  • Enabled early feedback by integrating Smoke Test with DevOps pipeline, which empowered developers to check regression issues before releasing new builds.
  • Delivered €15000+ in savings in the past 6 months by introducing automation from day one.
  • Achieved end-to-end API integration testing and uncovered 147 critical defects.
